چکیده:
For the purpose of supplying electric power to the Gheshm strategic Island in Hormoz Strait, Persian Gulf, various alternatives such as submarine cable line, construction of power plant in the Island and finally, construction of an overhead line, were studied. Due to the difficulties involved in supplying fuel as well as dwelling of expert personnel in the Island to provide for operation and maintenance of a power plant with a minimum capacity of 250 MW, the power plant alternative was dismissed.
The submarine cable alternative was then deemed as inadequate due to heavy costs involved and due to the speed of water as well as profile and erosion conditions existing at the sea bed. Finally, construction of a two circuit of 230 KV overhead transmission line at the shortest distance between the main land and Gheshm Island and temporary connection of the said line to the 230 KV BOSTANOLENGE line followed by a direct connection of the overhead line to Bandar Abbas power plant as the permanent plan was approved by the responsible project authorities. The strait crossing project at the shortest distance between the mainland at the coast of PAHL port, and the oppos ‘ ite coast at Gheshm Island, consists of two high suspension towers of T3 and T2 plus two dead end towers of T4 and T1. One of the two high suspension towers (T2) iserected inside the sea and the next tower (T3) with long span of 1585 m, and max. sag of 87.5 m is erected on the coast of Gheshm Island, Tower T1 is erected on the coast of PAHL port and tower T4 is erected on the Gheshm Island. By completing the above project, on February1993, the largest Island of Persian Gulf (Gheshm) was connected to the National Network of the Country through Bandar Abbas Power Plant, with two 230 Kv circuits of 400 MW capacity (under normal operation).
